What about Red Square?

Red Square is the heart of Moscow. The Kremlin faces Red Square. In old Russian ‘red’ means beautiful. It got its name in the 17th century. Red Square is large. It is famous for St Basil’s Cathedral, the Mausoleum, the State History Museum and GUM.

To the left of the Mausoleum there is a famous tower. It is the tallest tower of the Kremlin – the Spaskaya Tower. The Spaskaya Tower is famous for its clock.

There you can also see a monument to citizen Minin and prince Pozharsky.

There are many paintings showing Red Square. Great military parades take place in Red Square on the 9th of May, our great national holiday.
