Wales

Principality of Wales
Located in the west of the island of Great Britain.


Most of the territory of Wales is occupied by various mountain ranges, of which the main one is the Cambrian Mountains with the highest points of Snowdon - 1085 m above sea level, Cader Idris - 892 m and Plinlimon - 752 m


Their total area is over 20,779 square kilometers.

Wales is divided into 22 unitary administrative divisions (districts). These include: 9 counties, 3 cities with city status and 10 city-counties.

The capital of the Wales is Cardiff.

Wales is open to winds from the Atlantic Ocean, so the climate there has pronounced features of the sea. Its coastline is almost a regular semicircle, bounded from the north by the Llyn Peninsula, and from the south by a large peninsula ending in the southwest with Cape St. David. On the western coast, up to 1270 mm of precipitation falls annually, although to the east of the mountains these figures are somewhat lower (up to 723 mm / year), and in the mountains themselves - higher (up to 2540 mm / year). The average temperature in July is 15.6°C, in January - 5.6°C.

There are many rivers in Wales. 

The weather in Wales is very changeable.

The Welsh also say that they have three variants of weather:
when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon
or when it rains all day long.

Every country has its own national emblem.
The daffodil is the national flower of Wales.
The red kite is sometimes referred to as the national wildlife symbol of Wales.
Rock Oak or Welsh Oak is the national tree of Wales.

The flag of the Wales is known as the Y Ddraig Goch.



The flag of Wales is a red dragon (wall. Y Ddraig Goch) on a white and green background. Legislated in 1959, although the red dragon has been a symbol of Wales since time immemorial (according to popular belief, Roman) times. He is associated with the hero of medieval legends, King Arthur. During the Middle Ages (under the Tudor dynasty), white and green were also associated with Wales.

The national anthem is «Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau» (Land of My Fathers)

Wales is part of the United Kingdom and is headed by the British monarch, currently King Charles III. The supreme legislative power, the source of which is the Crown in the person of the "monarch-in-parliament"), is in the hands of the British Parliament, and part of it was transferred in the process of devolution to the Cardiff-based Parliament of Wales - Senedd, consisting of 60 members (aelod at Cenedd Cymru) elected by the people of the province.
